Designer Alexia Klompje of Cape Town-based homeware brand Klomp Ceramics has launched a new range of ceramics, entitled Dot Dash.

After having a brain tumour removed in 2012, Alexia was unable to make use of the right side of her body. No longer able to work as a stylist, Alexia found ceramics. “The recovery was slow and as a creative person I needed something creative to do while I healed,” she says on her website. “Unsure of what that was, I had a dream one night and in it this voice told me I needed to start working with clay. That was it. Playing with clay allowed me to express myself, tell my story and heal. And Klomp Ceramics was born.”

This new collection of one-of-a-kind graphic cylindrical vases are all hand-made. The range features hand-painted markings on an unglazed off-white base with a clear glazed interior, with the black-on-white colour scheme appearing to mimic the layout of a bustling city.

Each piece, retailing between R580 and R1 180 depending on the size, would make for an ideal accompaniment to the decor of a contemporary city apartment or modern home.
