The item in your image is an antique chamberstick, also commonly known as a "rat de cave" (cellar rat) candlestick due to its practical design for lighting the way through dark hallways or cellars. 

Pushup Mechanism: The most distinctive feature is the sliding "pushup" or "pusher" knob on the central stem. This allowed the user to easily raise the candle as it burned down, ensuring every bit of wax was used and making it easy to remove the remaining stub.

Finger Loop Handle: The small ring on the side of the tray is a finger loop, designed for carrying the candle securely with one hand.

Wide Drip Pan: The broad, cupped base (drip pan) was essential for catching hot wax while the holder was being carried. 

Time Period: Similar designs were widely produced during the 18th and 19th centuries, particularly in the Georgian and Victorian eras.
