Antique J. H. Dallmeyer photography lens. Model 6D Serial number 45555.
Serial number 45555 indicates  1889 as the year of manufacture. 
Factory was founded in 1860, in England, and the lenses have been in production since then.
Registration number indicates 
This a 6D model, for portraits. According to the 1912 Advertisement the 6D has a focal length of 24 inches 610mm
It was priced in 1912 at £25 and 6 shillings.
This example is missing the slider glass and the slider for focusing.
This example has a portion of the housing, and newspaper wrapped around it still.

Something that is truly unique, rare and a conversation piece.
A pair of lenses in good condition fetches $5000, a princely sum of R90 000.
