Vintage Japanese Imari Style Plate | Imperial Cart & Floral Scene

This one arrives loud and fully dressed.

An imperial ox cart rolls straight through the centre, framed by layered florals, sweeping plumes, and finely detailed birds. Everything is in motion, yet nothing feels chaotic. It’s controlled opulence, the kind that knows exactly how far to go without tipping over.

The colour palette does most of the heavy lifting. Deep cobalt, warm ochre, soft pink, and rust tones all playing off each other in that unmistakable Imari language. It’s rich, saturated, and confident without feeling heavy.

There’s a storytelling quality to it. Not just decoration, but a scene unfolding. The cart, the surrounding botanicals, the movement in the composition. It draws you in the longer you sit with it.

Measures approximately 14.5 cm in diameter and about 2 cm in height.

Unmarked on the underside, but clearly aligned with mid-century Japanese Imari-style production, likely dating to the 1960s to 1970s.

Condition is excellent vintage. No chips, no cracks, no crazing, no repairs. The glaze remains glossy and the colours bright.

Small enough to tuck into a cabinet, bold enough to anchor a wall.

It doesn’t do subtle. And it doesn’t need to.
