Greek Orthodox Christian icon of the Kollyvades Fathers. The Kollyvades (Greek: Κολλυβάδες) were a group of 18th century Orthodox monks, theologians, and spiritual teachers based primarily on Mount Athos in Greece. They played a key role in a spiritual renewal movement within the Eastern Orthodox Church, advocating for a return to the patristic tradition, deeper sacramental life, and stricter adherence to the teachings of the early Church Fathers.

Several key Athonite monks were central to the movement:

St. Nicodemus the Hagiorite (1749–1809) — compiled the Philokalia and many other spiritual texts.

St. Makarios of Corinth (1731–1805) — a strong advocate for frequent communion and deep spiritual renewal.

St. Athanasios of Paros (1721–1813) — a theologian and defender of the Kollyvades’ positions.

Neophytos Kafsokalyvitis — an early leader in the debate over memorial services.
