Rare and unique collection Anglo Boer War French ephemera of Le Rire (The Laugh") satirical magazine published in Paris, 1894 - 1950.

1. No. 265 of 2 Dec 1899. Illustration by Charles Léandre (1862 - 1934). The figure on the right is Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany dressed in military uniform. The large woman is England, drawn as an overweight grandmotherly figure. The man on the side is Pres. Kruger watching anxiously. Caption: "Don't worry yourself old Kruger. If I came to England, it was only to kiss grandmother".

2. No. 314 of 10 Nov 1900. Title: Kruger in Europe. Kruger holding his hat in one hand and a Bible in the other. A caricatured bat-like creature on his head. Figures at his feet represent European nations. Woman in striped dress is possibly France. Helmeted man is Germany. Caption: He whose feet are about to slip is, in the eyes of him who prospers, like a lamp that is no longer in use". (Book of Job). Drawing is by C. Léandre.

3. No. 315 of 17 Nov. 1900. Special edition dedicated entirely to the 2nd Boer War titled " Kruger the Great and John Bull the Small. Caricatures are by Russian - born artist Caran d' Ache. ( Emmanuel Poiré).
