Le Petit Journal was a conservative daily newspaper published in Paris, France, from February 1863 to August 1944. Founded by Moïse Polydore Millaud, its ownership later passed to Hippolyte Auguste Marinoni, who, in 1884, introduced the Supplément Illustré—a weekly Sunday supplement that was the first to feature color illustrations.

During the Anglo-Boer War (1899–1902), the Supplément Illustré regularly published color etchings depicting key events and scenes from the war. Many covers also featured President Paul Kruger, who, during his visits to France, received widespread admiration from the French public. Artists such as Fortune Louis Meaulle (1844–1901) and Oswaldo Tofani (1849–1915) frequently contributed to these striking illustrations.

No 523 of 25 November 1900. Pres. Kruger on the Gelderland. Original edition no. 523 of 25 November 1900. Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands approved that the Gelderland be made available for President Kruger and his entourage. They departed on 20 October 1900 from Delagoa Bay for Marseilles, France. 

No 525 of 9 December 1900. The guests of France. President Kruger accompanied by Dr Leyds, accept the acclaim of the Parisian crowd from the balcony of the Hotel Scribe.

No 624 of 2 November 1902. President Kruger in Menton. In October 1902 Pres. Kruger moved to warmer climate of Menton on the French Riveira where he and his entourage stayed in the Villa Gena l. He later returned to Hilversum where he stayed in the Villa Djemnah. From Hilversum he returned to Menton and stayed in the same Villa until his health deteriorated to such an extent that his physician recommended he move to Switzerland.
