An incredible 15ct yellow gold Victorian, double lion or tiger claw brooch. 😍 These are extremely rare! The brooch has a gold nugget hanging in the centre and features a gold lion surmount above. A gold lion surmount on Victorian jewellery symbolizes strength, courage, leadership, power, nobility, loyalty, and protection. However, the lion claws and lion surmounts were also popular as the Lion-claw necklaces were the exclusive property of royalty. Everything is 15ct, as you can see, there is a silver pin shoved in the side of the 15 ct gold pin mechanism or hinge, which was inserted instead of gold in order to hold the gold pin safely and provide more strength. The reason being is that 15ct gold becomes softer due to the higher carat and bends easier, especially when it is fine jewellery like the pin of this brooch . This was commonly done to protect the brooches to enhance the longevity and strength of the gold brooch pin. 
The size is approximately 4.3 cm x 4.5 cm. They symbolised power and nobility. These retail from R13000-R15000 overseas. Both men and women used to wear these and still do today! You are welcome to make an offer but please be reasonable.
