Vintage snake chain necklace, 1970s–1980s. Goldtone, long + slinky. 

Materials: 
Goldtone metal — likely brass. That herringbone/snake weave is proper quality.
Length — 80cm. This is an opera length or lariat style.
Clasp — spring ring, matches the chain.

Style: 1970s Disco / 80s Minimalist Glam / “Liquid Gold”. This was the chain for layering or wearing solo with a deep V. Peak “Cher + Studio 54 + ouma at a wedding” energy.

Age & History

Age: 1975–1985. Snake chains were everywhere in the disco era + early 80s power dressing. 

Origin:
Imported: Many from Italy or West Germany — they made the best snake chains.
Context: This was ouma’s “going out” chain. Worn with black, worn with leopard print, worn with attitude. Layered with pearls for “daytime deftig”, worn solo at night for “don’t talk to me unless it’s about my property portfolio”.
