Vintage Murano Art Glass Pheasant by Archimede Seguso

An incredible, impressively sized glass bird created on the island of Murano by renowned glass artist, Archimede Seguso. Seguso was well known for using a sommerso effect where colored glass appears to be submerged into clear glass.
The rich and deep colors- rusty red and green glass are both "submerged" into clear glass. You can also see the controlled bubbles or "bullicant" in the glass as well as plenty flecks of gold leaf. It is a heavy and solid piece. He sits on a swirled base of clear glass with gold flecks with a pontil mark. 

At an impressive 36cm tall, it’s a stunning example of fine vintage Murano art glass by a master glass artist.

It is in perfect condition- no cracks, chips or fractures.

Archimede Seguso was born on the island of Murano, in Venice, Italy in 1909. The Seguso family had lived and worked on this Venetian island for over 650 years and were well known for their special glass making methods. The young Archimede became familiar with the business at the very young age of 11. He was put to work alongside experienced masters who taught him complex skills, and by the age of 17 he became a master and a partner in the furnace he worked in. Archimede along with artistic directors, Flavio Poli and Vittorio Zecchin of Barovier Seguso & Ferro, collaborated to form Seguso Vetri d’Arte in 1933, known for it's innovations in the glass making industry. By 1946, Archimede had achieved total freedom and maturity in the artistic field and decided to open his own workshop, Vetreria Seguso Archimede. It was here that Seguso changed the industry of glass making with his bold and courageous inventions, full of creativity and elegance. He became known for his highly demanded glass chandeliers and wide collection of animal figurines made of Alabastro Glass, Millefiori Glass, or featuring gold leaf decoration. His long years of research and innovation were passed on to his family, who cherish and keep alive his numerous secrets and masterful techniques.
