Some wear and tear on the spine, but at almost 80 years old, she looks pretty good. First owner's name written on first page, dated 1951, purchased from Maskew Miller Ltd., Cape Town.

Constance Spry was not only the 20th century’s most influential floral decorator, but a cookbook and recipe writer too. When the book was first released in 1942, Britain was 3 years into World War II, with the rationing at the time creating a challenge for her recipes. She comments “it will be nice after the war to have cream and wine and more butter and sugar, because one can make more and better dishes” (page 16 photographed). This book intertwines gardening, growing food, cooking and life in Britain during World War II. A beautiful addition to your mid-century wartime recipe book collection.
