The Gel Lyte III is an iconic running silhouette that made its debut in 1989, introducing numerous innovative features, most notably the famous split tongue. This unique design innovation solved the age-old problem of tongues slipping down the side of the shoe. Fast forward to 2015, and Asics gave this classic silhouette an update in line with their tradition of performance running. The new iteration featured single-piece, no-sew uppers with mesh paneling, resulting in a sleek and minimalist aesthetic that, in my opinion, is truly beautiful.

In the spirit of providing transparent and honest reviews, I must note that this shoe is most suitable for individuals with slim feet, rather than those with broader foot shapes. The distinctive "split tongue" design can create a bit of a bottleneck effect, especially near the beginning of the midfoot area (known as the metatarsus).

However, if you're more of a collector than an active wearer, or if you typically wear a size below the standard shoe size, which is a size 8 (meaning you'd typically wear a size 7 or 7.5), then you should find the fit more comfortable and spacious.

I personally acquired this pair in 2016 as part of a deadstock sale, and I'm pleased to report that they are in mint condition.
